NYCFC couldn’t get it done on Sunday, losing 2-0 to D.C. United at Citi Field. They started off strong and created a few good chances early, but couldn’t finish. D.C. took advantage in the 29th minute, with Louis Munteanu scoring off a scramble in the box to make it 1-0.

NYCFC had opportunities to respond, including a dangerous free kick from Nicolás Fernández Mercau that was saved by Sean Johnson, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

In the second half, they kept pushing and even had a goal called back for offside. Then in the 74th minute, D.C. was awarded a penalty, and Munteanu converted to make it 2-0.

NYCFC had chances late, but Johnson came up big to keep the clean sheet.

Overall, NYCFC created enough chances, just couldn’t finish, and D.C. made them pay.
